Visit Stockholm’s best museums

If you are visiting Stockholm on your next holiday, I have some great museum to offer you. There is a large variety of museums in the city, ranging from art galleries to art museums, museums of antiquities, maritime museums, biological museums and so on. Some of the best museums are the following: the National Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of Modern Art, the Swedish Museum of Natural History and the Swedish Museum of National Antiquities. The National Museum of Fine Arts

The National Museum of Fine Arts is situated in central Stockholm, on the peninsula of Blasieholmen. The museum was opened in 1792. In this unsurpassed building you can see about 500.000 of drawings, paintings and porcelain items. The building which houses the museum dates from the 19th century. Since 1961 the museum has included some workshops, too. Later, a restaurant was added. Thus, visitors can admire the fantastic collections and rest in the restaurant while they have a delicious meal. It is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 to 20:00, on Wednesdays and Friday to Sunday from 11:00 to 17:00. It is closed on Mondays. (March 2013)

The Museum of Modern Art (Moderna Museet)

Another interesting museum of Stockholm is the Moderna Museet. It is also situated in the heart of the city, on the island of Skeppsholmen. The museum houses fantastic collections of contemporary and modern art, including works by Salvador Dalí and Pablo Picasso. On Tuesdays and Fridays the museum is open from 10:00 until 20:00. On Wednesdays, Thursdays and on weekends it can be visited from 10:00 until 18:00. (March 2013)

The Swedish Museum of Natural History

Do you love history? If you do, you can not miss to visit the Swedish Museum of Natural History. Housed in a magnificent building, the museum is a popular tourist attraction of the city. If paleontology, zoology and archeology excite you, I guarantee you will enjoy the visit! The building also houses an IMAX cinema which is also very popular among both local people and visitors. The museum is open from Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 until 18:00 and on weekends from 11:00 to 18:00. (March 2013)

The Swedish Museum of National Antiquities

As one of the best museums in Stockholm, the Swedish Museum of National Antiquities is a very popular visitor attraction. It is also known as the National Historical Museum or the Historiska Museet. The museum houses gorgeous collections of objects relating to Swedish art and history dating from the Stone Age until the 16th century. It can be visited from Tuesday to Sunday from 11:00 until 17:00, except Wednesday – from 17:00 until 20:00. (March 2013)
