Things to Do and See in the Beautiful Gävle
Gävle, is a provincial town, situated on the East Coast of central Sweden. It is a very famous town, as it has a small university college and a picturesque landscape with colorful wooden houses. The capital city, Stockholm is just 1h 20 away with the fastest trains, but it can be reached by a variety of trains from all over Sweden. The town has an excellent bus network, you can get almost everywhere by bus. All buses stops in central Gävle in Rådhustorget. There are also reliable taxi services, and you do not have to worry if you do not speak their language, as most of the drivers speak relatively good English. Taking a bike it can be a good choice as well; however walking is the most common way of getting around in the city center. As all of the main restaurants, pubs and hotels can be found close to the central Stortorget square.
Things to do and see in the city
Swedish Railway Museum- exhibits the world’s finest collection of locomotives. Various exhibitions and activities are organized around the museum. Note that it is closed on Mondays. Gävle Castle and Prison Museum- The castle hosts a typical Swedish prison, a fascinating building involvingvisitors into the earlier days.
Furovik Park is a great leisure setting for families with children. It features a small carnival and arcade zoo. Gävle Theater has numerous performances for both youth and adults as well. Gävle Concert Hall and Symphony Orchesta is the place where you can attend concerts from well known Swedish and International bands and artists.
Sports practiced in the city
There is the Läkerol Arena, where you can practice skate from August to December in every Saturday. There is a 7.4 km skate track. Canoeing is also popular activity in the town. Fishing- the city is famous among the fisherman because it offers salmon fishing for free.
There are many places for eating in the city, most of them are around the city square with a large food court in the central shopping mall, Galleri Niani. Pigalle- it serves authentic Swedish meals. Buddy- is specializing on meat, strips and lots of fat sauces. Church Street Saloon- serves American Western Style food always crowded, so make reservation in advance. Bistro Nord- found in the train station building it is a small but good restaurant in the city.
