Stockholm is one of the most attractive European capital cities. It is abundant in fantastic tourist attractions of all kind. The city is also one of the greenest cities in Europe. The Swedish capital city is very attractive among tourists. In some of my previous guides I have already presented you several aspects relating to the tourist attractions of Stockholm.

Below I will present an article dedicated to art-lovers, as Stockholm is one of the world’s most crowded museum-cities. I will give you some useful info about the Moderna Museet (the Museum of Modern Art), the Nationalmuseum, the Stockholm City Museum, the Tensta Konsthall and the Milliken Gallery.

The Nationalmuseum

The most renowned museum of Sweden is the Nationalmuseum. It houses the country’s largest collection of art, including about 16,000 of paintings and 30,000 objects and handicrafts. The collection dates back in the 16th century, including works by such famous artists like Rembrandt. The museum is open daily from 10:00 to 18:00, except on Tuesdays and Thursdays – until 20:00. The Moderna Museet (the Museum of Modern Art)

One of Sweden’s most famous museums can be found in Stockholm. It is the Museum of Modern Art – the Moderna Museet. The museum is the country’s national museum of modern art and it exhibits works by famous modern artists such as Salvador Dalí and Picasso. It houses both Swedish and international modern and contemporary art. If you are interested in this branch of art, don’t miss the Moderna Museet! The museum is open daily from 10:00 to 20:00. The Stockholm City Museum

Another notable museum of the Swedish capital city is the Stockholm City Museum. The museum is dedicated to the documentation, preservation and exhibition of the history of Stockholm. The museum houses an immense collection of thousands of objects.

The collections include about 300,000 items of historical interest, more than 20,000 pieces of art and about 3 million photographs. The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 11:00 to 17:00, on Thursdays until 20:00. It is closed on Mondays. (January 2014)

The Tensta Konsthall

One of the best art galleries of Stockholm is the Tensta Konsthall. The gallery was named after the suburb it is located within. The Tensta Konsthall is dedicated to contemporary art, being very attractive for the lovers of art.

The Milliken Gallery

Another great art gallery of Stockholm is the Milliken Gallery. It is a quite recent art centre of the city, being opened in 2004. It is specialized in emerging and mid-career artists who have international perspective.
